The Fundy Trail
Hugging cliff tops above the world's highest tides, The Fundy Trail winds its way along one of the last remaining coastal wilderness areas between Florida, USA and Labrador, Canada. The pedestrian and bicycle trails connect to paths and stairways, across a suspension footbridge, and past waterfalls towering 250m above pristine beaches.
Price Point: Adults: $5.50; seniors (age 65+): $4.50; children 12 & under: $3.50
The Fundy Trail is the ultimate Bay of Fundy eco-adventure. Drive the paved parkway that hugs the coastal cliffs. Lace up your hiking boots or hop on your mountain bike and explore the trails. The trails connect to paths and stairways which lead to pristine beaches and tumbling waterfalls, Precambrian rocks, or 250-m (820-ft.) cliffs that tower at the water’s edge.
And if that doesn’t take your breath away, just check out the view - the spectacular, stunning Bay of Fundy!
The trail has been carved out of the Fundy escarpment, one of the last remaining coastal wilderness areas between Florida and Labrador. Most of the elements of the Fundy ecosystem exist within this area, including the dramatic Fundy tides.
You can explore as far as Big Salmon River. Guided tours to Hearst Lodge and interpretive walks for the family or for groups are available.
At the interpretive centre, you’ll find original artifacts and old photos from a bygone era – back when logging, fishing and shipbuilding were an economic mainstay of this region. There is a snack bar, restroom facilities and a small retail outlet for your convenience.
Above the interpretive centre is a suspension footbridge across the sparkling waters of the Big Salmon River which serves as the beginning of the Fundy Footpath. The Fundy Footpath is a continuous wilderness trail from Big Salmon River on the Fundy Trail to the boundaries of Fundy National Park, a total distance of 41 km (24 mi.). The rugged Fundy terrain leads up and down from elevations of 0 to 300 m (984 ft.) across a dozen ravines. The recommended travel time for experienced backpackers is estimated at 3 to 4 days.
